ROCHESTER, Minn. — A 60-minute program featuring The Mayo Clinic Diet is part of special programming that will premiere on PBS stations beginning Dec. 3 (check local listings)

The program includes information about the first and only dietary program developed by Mayo Clinic; interviews with a multidisciplinary team of highly respected physicians, dietitians, clinical psychologists and other medical experts, and success stories from people who used the diet to improve their weight and health.

The Mayo Clinic Diet is based on many years of clinical experience at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, Florida and Arizona, along with research at Mayo Clinic and other institutions. It is designed to be an effective, practical and enjoyable way to help people lose weight and maintain weight loss. The diet is easy to understand and easy to follow. The PBS program offers detailed information, insights and advice for viewers that is not available from any other television program.

"In our work with literally thousands of patients, and by scouring all of the best medical research available, we've identified the critical habits of people who have successfully lost weight and maintained a healthy weight," says Donald Hensrud, M.D., medical editor-in-chief, The Mayo Clinic Diet, and preventive medicine expert at Mayo Clinic. "With The Mayo Clinic Diet, we've boiled this information down to five simple habits to add to your lifestyle, five habits to break, and five bonus habits that will help you lose the weight you want and keep it off, while at the same time improving your overall health.

PBS special programming invites viewers to experience the worlds of science, history, nature and public affairs; hear diverse viewpoints; and take front-row seats to world-class drama and performances. "The Mayo Clinic Diet" program is underwritten by public television viewers and PBS and was produced by Santa Fe Productions.

The Mayo Clinic Diet, published by Good Books, debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times' bestseller list.

The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet, adapted for the more than 23 million Americans who suffer from type 2 diabetes and the 79 million pre-diabetic adults, is now available.
